Welcome to the third in our series of blogs helping you to start cycling to work. In the first two blogs we looked at Preparation and Hitting the Road. In this blog we will look at some practical steps to make the process more comfortable. Making it to your destination will be the highpoint, and the following will ensure you have a great rest of the day!

Storage

You’ll need to store your bike, helmet, and kit somewhere safe for the day. Check with your building manager if there are secure bike racks and lockers at work, and make sure you bring the right locks for them. If there isn’t anywhere, plan ahead – make room in your own workspace to store things out of the way.

Freshen Up

Even after a short ride, freshening up will help you catch your breath; and after a long one will help you feel your best. If there are showers at work, check how to access them in advance and if towels and toiletries are provided. Have a change of clothes ready too, either in your bag or already at work – you’ll then never have to worry about having clean socks!

Celebrate!

Whether it’s your first time or not, cycling to work is always worth a celebration! Grab a sweet treat, morning coffee or catch-up with your favourite colleague and enjoy that well-earned moment – on a grey morning, it may be that extra little boost you need to get on your bike. Don’t worry, in no time at all the cycle itself will be your reward!
